Switzerland, Depositary State of the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, has chaired the elections of the members of the International Humanitarian Fact-Finding Commission (IHFFC).
The elections took place in Bern on 19 November 2021.
The 76 States Parties to the First Additional Protocol of 1977 to the Geneva Conventions that have accepted the competence of the Commission were invited to participate in these elections. 58 States participated in the meeting under the chairmanship of Ambassador Nathalie Marti, Vice-Director of the Directorate of Public International Law of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
After the first ballot the following candidates were elected for a term of office of five years (in the alphabetical order of their state of origin):

The newly-formed Commission will enter into function at its first annual meeting planned to take place in March 2022 in Geneva. Each of its members serves in a personal capacity and on the basis of the principle of impartiality.
